About GCN MOPS

E-mail Print PDF

MOPS is an international organization designed to nurture mothers with children from birth through kindergarten.  Our goal is to reach moms where they are by offering support in a relaxed atmosphere of caring, sharing and fun!

We know that all moms share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be.  This is the perfect place to grow as moms, to celebrate the joys of motherhood and to encourage each other through its challenges.

Our non-denominational MOPS group is a chartered ministry of Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.  The MOPS program is built on several foundational principles:

  • Community: MOPS provides an open, caring and accepting atmosphere where women can come together to share this important season of life.
  • Mentoring: Mature women listen, encourage, and offer information and perspectives gained through experiences.
  • Practical Instruction: Teaching focuses on areas of common interest, offering inspiration and information that is relevant to the life of a mother.
  • Leadership Development: MOPS groups are organized and run by mothers of preschoolers, as well as for mothers of preschoolers.  Women who are involved in MOPS gain confidence in their leadership skills through the training and experience they receive from MOPS.

Meetings: GCN MOPS meets from 9:30-11:30am on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month, September through May, at Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.  We begin our meetings with breakfast, so come hungry!  Each meeting highlights a different topic/guest speaker, followed by small group discussion.  We then enjoy a craft or fun activity.

Moms: We warmly welcome moms of every age, social or ethnic background and religious denomination - any mom who has (or is about to have) children from birth through kindergarten! Stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms, moms who are expecting and moms who are waiting to adopt - please join us! If you would like to visit one of our meetings, please contact us to pre-register so that we may arrange for childcare and supplies. You are welcome to join us at any time throughout the year!

Guests: We love to have moms visit with us!  However, our MOPPETS area is designed to care only for registered children.  Moms who would like to visit with us need to make other childcare arrangements or make advance arrangements with our MOPPETS Coordinator at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Childcare: Be assured that your child(ren) will be lovingly cared for in our MOPPETS program just down the hall.  They have a planned curriculum, snacks, music and play time.

Cost: Annual membership for GCN MOPS is $100, or $60 per semester.  This fee helps cover the costs of our MOPPETS program (curriculum, crafts, snacks, etc.), guest speakers, craft supplies, curriculum, publicity, door prizes and more.  The fee also includes your MOPS International Membership, which consists of the following:

NEW! 2009 Theme Book
Life on Planet Mom: A Down-to-Earth Guide to Your Changing Relationships
Nothing changes a woman like motherhood. Becoming a mom affects your relationships with everyone – your spouse, your parents, your friends, and even God. During this time of life, you need to feel nurtured and loved by solid Connections you can trust. But in the chaos of raising children, cultivating relationships can take a backseat to just getting the kids fed and to school on time.

Author Lisa T. Bergren helps busy moms like you prioritize your relationships with others and offers practical ideas to enhance your six key relationships: with self, spouse, friends, family of origin, community and God. With in-depth research, heartfelt personal experience and expert advice, Bergren shows you how to keep vital relationships during the parenting years. Whether you have just brought home a new baby or you’re still trying to find your footing raising young children, you will benefit from the wisdom found in this book.
